How is the water temperature in Komodo?

Generally, temperatures in Komodo area ranges from 26 to 28 degree Celsius. A 3mm wetsuit is generally sufficient and rental is already included in the diving package.

I heard that the current in Komodo National Park is strong, and I am a beginner (Open Water Diver with 4 logs). Will I be able to dive there?

It is possible to dive in several dive spots that is calmer than the other dive sites such as Siaba Besar (Turtle Town) and Sebayur to start with. However it will be more comfortable if you are an Advanced Diver as you will have more options in terms of the dive site selection.

What are the most popular diving sites in Komodo?

Komodo National Park is a truly rich area with many dive sites offering different experiences. But some of the most popular, sought after dive sites are:

• Manta Point (Makassar Reef), one of the site with a high probability to see Reef Mantas as it’s the cleaning stations for the manta rays! This is a relatively large dive site, with rubble coral bottom and sandy areas as well with rich macro life. Currents are common but it’s still a beginner friendly dive site. An alternative dive site with the same likelihood to spot Mantas is Mawan. It has white sandy slope with beautiful coral gardens.
• Siaba Besar (Turtle Town), a calm dive site which is suitable for beginners. As the name says, it’s turtle town, so turtles are commonly sighted! Sometimes sharks, cuttlefish, and sting rays can be spotted around here too. Some parts of the dive site has a sandy bottom area, suitable for finding macro surprises or for courses to practice your skills.
• Batu Bolong, it’s a pinnacle dive site. The name literally translates to rock with a hole which is what we see on the surface. The pinnacle goes very deep to 70m, and is very rich with soft and hard corals, and abundant with fish. Schools are common, and pelagics are usual sightings also (Napoleons, Trevallies, etc). Go a bit deeper and it’s not uncommon spotting reef sharks hiding between the cracks or swimming around. Macro life is also interesting, you can spot pygmy seahorse in the deeper area. Currents can be very strong with a possibility of down current, so this site is more suitable for advanced divers.
• The North: Crystal Rock, Castle Rock, Cauldron.  These sites can be subject to very strong currents hence are suitable for advanced divers. The strong currents attract the big guys though, namely grey reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, and giant trevallies! Schools of fusiliers, bannerfish, and sometimes barracudas can be seen here as well. Crystal Rock is named after it’s great visibility-crystal clear waters, in Castle Rock you usually can use a hook to face the current and feel yourself ‘flying’ while waiting to see the action comes to you, and Cauldron or also called Shotgun is a channel dive site, usually an adrenaline dive with a strong current (hence the name, shotgun) where you can enjoy the rollercoaster ride through the exhilarating rip current.
